About me

Shannaya Laurenciana Raúl is a Mozambican researcher specializing in rural development and social protection. She currently works with the World Bank Development Impact Group (DECDI) supporting impact evaluations with research related to public works programs, household and community welfare in rural Mozambique. Her research interests lie at the intersection of poverty reduction, economic resilience, and gender-responsive development, to inform strong policies improving economic resilience.

Shannaya Laurenciana Raúl is a Mozambican researcher specializing in rural development and social protection. She holds a Master of International Affairs from Texas A&M University, where she focused on International Development and Economic Policy as a Fulbright Scholar, and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Joaquim Chissano University in Maputo, Mozambique. Currently, she works as a Research Fellow with the World Bank’s Development Impact group (DECDI), contributing to the evaluation of the Productive Social Action Program (PASP) in Mozambique. Her work involves designing and implementing qualitative research to understand the mechanisms through which this social protection program affects household and community welfare.
A former member of the Lab for Economic Development Research (LEDR) at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Shannaya’s broader research interests lie at the intersection of poverty reduction, economic resilience, and gender-responsive development. She is particularly interested in how development programs can be designed to better support women’s economic participation and general long-term livelihoods in vulnerable settings.
During her free times she enjoys working out, watching documentaries and reading, while preparing for a PhD in Economics and Public Policy which will enhance her contributions to evidence-based policymaking through research, collaboration, and mentorship in the Global South.
