Dr. Syeda Azeem Unnisa is currently working as Associate Professor in Department of Environmental Science, University College of Science, Osmania University. She is Ph.D., M.Sc., in Environmental Science and Technology from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH). She is having 20 years of experience in teaching and research at Post Graduate level. She has served as Chairperson Board of Studies - EVS, Director, Minorities Cell and Mah Laqa Bai Chanda Centre for Women Studies, Osmania University for 3 years.
Dr. Syeda Azeem Unnisa is currently working as Associate Professor in Department of Environmental Science, University College of Science, Osmania University. She is Ph.D., M.Sc., in Environmental Science and Technology from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH). She is having 20 years of experience in teaching and research at Post Graduate level. She has served as Chairperson Board of Studies - EVS, Director, Minorities Cell and Mah Laqa Bai Chanda Centre for Women Studies, Osmania University for 3 years.
She has been granted Indian Patent in 2022 for preparing green compostable biomaterial (GCMB) and Certificate of Registration for Design from the Patent Office, GoI for Designing fruits, flowers, vegetables plucking and storing ROBOT in 2024. She is a Member of CHD, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), India. She is Fellow of Telangana Academy of Sciences (FTAS), FICEE, FISCA. She is committee member for Telangana Council for Higher Education (TGCHE) - UMS Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University of Telangana (DMSESUT).
To her credit she has supervised 8 Ph.D research scholars and mentored M.Sc projects. She has completed 10 research projects funded by Government of India like UGC-MRP, UGC – Start-Up, DST-WTI, DST-PURSE-OU, APCOST, CDMA, MoUD, TSBB, AIA ,TSCOST and Federal Assistant USA on Low-Cost Drinking Water Purification by Dual and Combined Treatment with Natural Coagulants and Solar Disinfection, Preparation of Peoples Biodiversity Registers of Telangana, Municipal Solid Waste Dumpsite Leachate Treatment, Studies on Assessment and Evaluation of the quality of drinking water at the consumers end, Heavy Metals Removal From Treated Sewage Effluent by using Eichhornia crasippes and Studies on Adulteration of Food and Food Products. She is expertise in water and wastewater analysis techniques (physical, chemical, microbiological, heavy metals) as chemist at Kingfisher Mineral Water Company.
She has published 97 research articles in Elsevier, Springer, Scopus, UGC approved journals with high impact factor on In-Vitro and In Vivo Studies of plant Derived Nanoparticles, Isolation of Microbes and Their Influences on Biochemical and Plant Growth Promoting Traits, Microwave assisted green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from Carica papaya fruit extract: Characterization and detection of Fe3+ and Hg2+ ions. She has published 2 textbooks, 2 edited books on environment at national and international level by Apple Academics (CRC Press), Academic Publishers and Telugu Academy.
She is a recipient of 10 awards by various organizations in the field of water and environment like Young Scientist (Gold Medal) - NEA 2009, Prof R.C.Gold Medal – Institute of Engineers 2012, Shri. Kancha Raddy Memorial Prize – IWWA 2015, Young Scientist Award - IFEE 2016, Vice Chancellors Award for Excellence 2023, Global Peace Award 2024, Women Achievers Award, Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, National Chapter of India (OWSD-NCI), 2025.
She is a recipient of International funded Training Programmes on Biodiversity-IVLP Visitorship programme by USA 2012, Environment Management for young leaders, JICA, Japan 2014, Development of Herbal Innovations using Green Extraction and Quality Control, Thailand, 2019 and Circular Economy Based Environmentally Green Technology for Sustainable Development, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, 2021.
She has attended 40 conferences & 10 training programmes. She has conducted 63 training programmes on water, wastewater, solid waste management for municipal commissioners and outreach programmes on women issues, leadership and health for women and children. She was Committee Member, National and State Level Evaluator for DST –NAC-National Children Science Congress (NCSC) from 2020 to 2023.
She is Urdu translator for National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI), Govt. of India, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. She is editorial board member for environmental journals, member of environmental professional bodies and resource person for esteem institutes like RCUES, MANU, JNTUH, EFLU, NEERI, BRAOU, EPTRI, TSBB and TSCOST. She has visited 8 countries (Atlanta, Washington, Florida, California, Burlington, Greece, Malaysia, UAE, Japan and Thailand) for research work presentation and trainings. Her biography is included in Marquis Who is Who, Washington and International Biographical Centre, (IBC) Cambridge, England.
