Prof. Uthra Dorairajan has been teaching Physics at Undergrad level for the past 30 years, and has been heading the Department for more than 17 years. She is also a Science communicator, writer , hands-on teacher trainer, who believes in inclusive learning and differential classrooms. She has been documenting Traditional Knowledge of India from the Science & Technolgy domain in Tamil & English. She has written textbook on Digital Electronics under UGC e Kumbh project. She has authored books in biography of Indian scientists, nuclera physics (comics) in Tamil. She has been penning biography of Women scientists of India (published more than 28).

Dr.Uthra Dorairajan has been teaching Physics at DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai, India for the past 30 years, and has been heading the Department for more than 17 years. She is a teacher who believes learning happens beyond classroom, communicates science through print Media, Radio and Social media to share knowledge and facilitate learning. To help parents and children learn science, she has translated many books and dubbed more than 50 science videos and guided her students dub 200+ videos into tamil, originally created by Padmashri. Arvind Gupta.
In recognition of her teaching and outreach activities, she has been awarded the IAPT Dinabandhu Sahu Memorial Award (IAPT-DSM teacher award) by the Indian Association for Physics Teachers (IAPT) in the year 2023. She has attended the very prestigious Workshop on Career development for Women in Physics by International Centre for Theoretical Physics, ICTP, Italy in 2023.
She has been training hundreds of number of School teachers and College teachers. Especially training teachers of Govt. Schools throughout the state in STEM related hands-on activities. She has been mentoring many students in Science communication and Physics.
She is a member of many National and International Scientific and academic bodies. She is a part of many Science communication projects. Stories always covey the message easily and Science without history and the background is only meaningful. She has translated many books, Science comics to Tamil and these can be accessed easily from her blog. Combining Science with our daily life and knowing life of Indian Scientists are something we miss in our school books. Her youtube videos in Tamil fills this gap to some extent.
She has authored many articles and books – on biography of Indian Scientists, on pedagogy, history of Science. She has written book on Digital Electronics released by UGC e-Kumbh initiative. She is a part of Vigyan Pratibha, an initiative of HBCSE,TIFR and IMSc, and translated books for Teachers and students. She is a part of authors who penned Vigyan Vidushi, a collection of biography of Women Scientists of our country ,released by Ministry of Science & Technology. She is currently translating books on history of Physics discoveries for the TN State govt. She has co-authored a book in Tamil on Scientifically Validated Traditional Knowledge of India, SVASTIK released by CSIR-NIScPR of Govt. of India.
She believes in inclusive education and has been spearheading various activities for students with special needs, mentoring them and their parents. As a step towards inclusivity in science, she organised Science for ALL, an hands-on experiential learning for neurodiverse learners and students with disabilities. This was funded by Diversity in Science grant of Biochemical Society, London.
