2025 International Day for Women and Girls in Science

EventTuesday, 11 February 2025

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) will be celebrated at Laikipia University, Nakuru County, Kenya on February 11, 2025. This event is a vital initiative for inspiring and empowering young women, fostering their participation in science and technology, and driving sustainable development in the country and the region in particular. The broader goal of this event is to empower the next generation of young women to pursue STEM education and careers, with the hope of increasing their representation in these critical fields. This event will provide a platform for participants to network, learn and make viable connections thus enhancing their skills and competencies, positioning them as competitive contributors in the STEM field. In addition, through showcasing real-life examples of women’s contributions to sustainability in science, other expected impacts shall include:

  1. Creating a platform for participants to build their capacities and to network with like-minded individuals and organizations, with a hope of fostering future collaborations across academic, industrial, and governmental sectors.
  2. Empowerment of the attendees through the shared success stories, innovations and while equipping them with tools and strategies for overcoming barriers in leadership.
  3. Strengthening linkages between STEM and sustainability through the promotion the role of science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
  4. Through reporting of the event and recognizing the contributions of women in STEM, there will be enhanced visibility of female scientists.
