Type of fellowship Research fellowship. UNESCO’s mission is both educational and cultural. In the area of training UNESCO endeavours:
- To promote research related to training with a view to developing strategies for the enhancement of human resource capacities;
- To assist in establishing and operating institutions dedicated to training in all its fields of competence;
- To help countries to formulate national policies that will achieve capacity building and training goals;
- To stimulate debate on important topics related to training;
- To strengthen institutional capacity for training so that countries and regions can find their own paths to self-sufficiency rather than depend on imported expertise;
- To foster intercultural dialogue and cross-cultural understanding through innovative forms of training;
- To set international standards for capacity building; and,
- To provide linkages and networking facilities that may enhance the work of both individuals and institutions through resource sharing and community partnerships in training projects.
Target group All, but priority to: women, candidates from LDCs and Palestine

Host info 1 or 2 countries abroad (any country)
Duration Min.: 3 months, max.: 9 months
Number of awards given each year 20 yearly

• international or domestic travel costs for the approved itinerary
• personal subsistence abroad

• local transport (e.g. commuting)
• medical insurance
Non eligible costs
• computer or equipment purchases
• publication costs
• attendance at conferences (except if part of the research)
• passport and visa expenses
• provisions for accompanying members
Amounts Max: $6,000 -$10,000, with a max. average of $1,000/1,800 per month for accommodation and meals (including local transportation and incidentals). Amount paid in 2/3 installments
