Rowaida Ahmed is a Professor at Suez Canal University in the Faculty of Science, Zoology Department. Her primary research interests include aquatic entomology, aquatic ecology, biodiversity, and biomonitoring. She completed her MSc and Ph.D. in Entomology from Suez Canal University, Egypt, in collaboration with the Division of Biology, Royal Holloway College, London University, UK. She also holds a B.Sc. from SCU, Egypt, in Biology. Her initial research in taxonomy and cytotaxonomy during her MSc and Ph.D. enriched the biodiversity of aquatic entomofauna, particularly in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, by contributing new records of rare and new species. Specimens from her Ph.D. research on Egyptian diving beetles, including newly identified species, are curated in the Coleoptera section of the Natural History Museum, London, UK. Post-Ph.D., she shifted into applied aquatic ecology, using macroinvertebrates as indicators of environmental health and examining the impact of physical, chemical, and heavy metal factors on various Egyptian aquatic ecosystems. Her research further incorporates remote sensing technologies for monitoring water quality dynamics and investigates the morphological deformities and cytogenetic alterations in Chironomid larvae to identify toxic stress. Her academic journey has been marked by a commitment to education, research, and institutional development. As the former Vice Dean for Postgraduate Affairs and Scientific Research, she has made contributions to academic policy and research. She served on defense committees for graduate students, participated in faculty promotion boards, and reviewed articles for various Science Alert Journals. A recipient of multiple research grants and postdoctoral fellowships, she has participated in international conferences and workshops and has numerous peer-reviewed publications. She has been a principal investigator and scientific member in projects concerning Sinai's fauna biodiversity, water treatment, and biological water resource assessment. She offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as General Zoology, Evolution, Taxonomy, Freshwater Biology, Aquatic Bioindicators, Medical Entomology and Applied Entomology.
