Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics Rosa A. Petit S.
About me
I am a Medical Physicist with a strong interest in scientific research, radiotherapy, and the development and evaluation of advanced technologies for cancer treatment. My professional work focuses on radiotherapy physics, including treatment planning, dosimetry, patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA), and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT).
My research interests include the development and validation of quality assurance methodologies, independent dose verification, and the application of statistical and computational methods to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of radiotherapy treatments. I have experience working with treatment planning systems, automated analysis, scripting, medical imaging, and computational tools, with a particular interest in the integration of artificial intelligence into medical physics and radiotherapy workflows.
I am a Clinical Medical Physicist focus in radiotherapy, currently working at Radioterapia del Norte in Salto, Uruguay. I successfully completed my clinical residency in radiotherapy at the Zunino Institute in December 2024.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Advanced Studies in Medical Physics from the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), jointly organized with the University of Trieste, which I completed in 2021. As part of this program, I undertook a clinical internship at the University Hospital of Siena, Italy.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Physics from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Carabobo. My undergraduate thesis, “Study of absorbed energy dose curves in a sample using tissue-equivalent simulations based on Monte Carlo techniques,” focused on absorbed dose calculations in tissue-equivalent materials, following the data and recommendations of ICRU Report 44 (Tissue Substitutes in Radiation Dosimetry and Measurement).
My professional interests include patient-specific quality assurance, VMAT, independent dose calculation, clinical applications of medical physics, and the use of ESAPI scripting for workflow automation and clinical data analysis.
