A new chapter in the advancement of women in science has begun at the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), as the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) formally inaugurated its local branch in a ceremony marked by vision, urgency, and a call to action.
Held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the University’s 1000 Capacity Hall, the event drew an impressive gathering of academics, administrators, and students under the compelling theme: “Bridging Gaps and Expanding Opportunities: Strategic Pathways for Early-Career Women Scientists in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.”
Representing the National Chairperson of OWSD Nigeria, Prof. Folasade M. Olajuyigbe, the South-South Zonal Coordinator, Engr. Dr. Nkolika Nwazor, described the inauguration as a defining moment; one that unlocks transformative opportunities for women in science.
She emphasized that the establishment of the UNIDEL Branch signals a firm commitment to advancing women, strengthening research capacity, and driving innovation to tackle pressing societal challenges.
In a stirring charge to members, she urged them to step forward boldly, share their research, tell their stories, and position themselves as leaders.
She stressed the power of collaboration, calling for strong partnerships within the university, across OWSD branches nationwide, and with international stakeholders.
According to her, the true strength of science lies in collective effort and shared knowledge, with research grounded in real societal needs and sustainable development.
She further challenged the newly inaugurated leadership to lead with vision, integrity, and inclusiveness, creating spaces where every voice is heard and a culture of excellence thrives.
