Reflections from the OWSD Pre-Conference Workshop - FUTA, Ondo State, Nigeria July 6, 2025
The Nigeria Chapter of OWSD begins her 7th Biennial International Conference with the theme - Fostering a Smarter Scientific and Technological Ecosystem today 7th July 2025
Today, the Pre-Conference Workshop of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Nigeria 7th Biennial International Conference, hosted at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) began with over 250 women in participation. The sessions were thoughtfully grouped for Early Career, Mid-Career, and Established Researchers.Sessions were packed with insight and inspiration from notable speakers in STEM. Topics ranged from Building a Productive Academic Career to Mastering Scientific Writing and Publishing; Career Longevity and Fulfillment to Workplace Leadership Mastery: Strategic Success for Senior Academics. A lot of moment truly stood out for the participants in all the sessions. Most of the Speakers delivered more than a lecture. It was a wake-up call. Sharing their experiences, personal journeys and confronting the environmental crises in Nigeria. Some many questions were raised by the speakers such as -
“Of what relevance is your research?”
“Do your research addresses real human and environmental needs?”
‘What next for established Researchers and Professors?’
The participants left the pre-conference workshop with burning questions that will help them reaffirmed to their research and academic work as women scientist. it’s a mission to solve pressing food security and climate issues in Nigeria. They were more convinced that research should not be for the shelves, but for society.
The pre-conference workshop participants are grateful for the supports received by Schlumberger Foundation (www.slb.com) and other partners for the 7th Biennial International Conference holding at FUTA, Ondo State, Nigeria.
