Adebanke Ajagunna is a microbiologist, researcher, and emerging academic with a strong passion for sustainable food systems and innovation. With a Master’s degree in Food and Industrial Microbiology, her work focuses on developing functional foods from underutilised crops and advancing food security through science-driven solutions.

She currently serves as an Assistant Lecturer, where she combines teaching, research, and mentorship to inspire the next generation of scientists. Beyond academia, Adebanke is a leader and community builder, serving as Vice President of her alma mater’s alumni association and actively mentoring undergraduate students.

Her research interests center on the development of functional foods from underutilised crops, particularly exploring probiotic fermentation as a tool for enhancing nutritional value, accessibility, and sustainability.

Currently serving as an Assistant Lecturer, Adebanke is deeply committed to academia, not only as a pathway for knowledge creation but also as a platform for shaping future scientists. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes clarity, curiosity, and real-world relevance, while her mentorship efforts reflect a strong dedication to student development. She actively advises undergraduate students, particularly in microbiology, guiding them academically and professionally as they navigate their early careers in science.

Adebanke’s academic journey has been marked by excellence and intentional growth. Graduating as the best student in her department, she transitioned seamlessly into academia, beginning her career as a Graduate Assistant before advancing into her current role. Her long-term vision is to become a globally recognized researcher, professor, and academic leader, contributing meaningfully to scientific knowledge, policy development, and institutional leadership.

Beyond the classroom and laboratory, Adebanke is a passionate leader and community builder. She serves as the Vice President of her alma mater’s alumni association, where she leads initiatives focused on academic advancement, career development, and alumni engagement. During her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), she also served as Vice President of the Charity group under the Community Development Service platform, demonstrating her commitment to service and social impact.

Her work extends into science communication and sustainability advocacy. She contributes to environmental efforts through her involvement in a plastic recycling initiative, where she manages digital content aimed at raising awareness and promoting responsible waste practices. This role reflects her broader commitment to bridging science, sustainability, and community engagement.

In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, Adebanke is a writer and thought leader exploring themes of growth, identity, and purpose. Through her upcoming book, Blissful Bloom: The Art of Becoming, she shares personal insights and reflections on the journey of becoming; encouraging individuals, especially women, to embrace growth as an ongoing, evolving process.
