About me

I am Dr. Aanuoluwapo Ruth Akinlabi, a Lecturer II in the Department of Medical Biochemistry, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. I hold a B.Sc. in Biochemistry, an M.Tech. in Applied Biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in Applied Biochemistry, specializing in Toxicology and Neurobiology. My research interests focus on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, phytomedicine, ethnopharmacology, and neurotoxicology, with particular emphasis on exploring the neuroprotective potential of medicinal plants such as Spondias mombin, Vernonia amygdalina, and Kalanchoe crenata using biochemical, molecular, behavioural, and histopathological approaches. I have contributed to several scientific publications and am actively involved in teaching, research, scientific writing, student mentorship, and academic activities in biomedical sciences. My goal is to contribute to the development of evidence-based natural therapeutic strategies for the prevention and management of neurodegenerative diseases.

I hold a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Babcock University, an M.Tech. in Applied Biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in Applied Biochemistry, with specialization in Toxicology and Neurobiology, from FUTA.

My research interests are centred on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, neurotoxicology, phytomedicine, ethnopharmacology, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation. My research focuses on exploring the therapeutic and neuroprotective potential of medicinal plants, particularly Spondias mombin, Vernonia amygdalina, and Kalanchoe crenata, using biochemical, molecular, behavioural, histological, and phytochemical approaches.

I have contributed to peer-reviewed scientific publications and have developed research experience in biochemical assays, molecular biology, HPLC-DAD phytochemical profiling, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and experimental animal studies. Beyond research, I am actively involved in teaching, student mentorship, scientific writing, and academic administration. My goal is to contribute to the discovery and development of evidence-based, natural-product-based therapeutic strategies for the prevention and management of neurodegenerative diseases while supporting the training of future biomedical scientists.
