About me
Arminda Salvador Dramusse Papel is an environmental engineer and researcher from Mozambique, specializing in water treatment, environmental engineering, and sustainable resource management. Research has focused on research on low-cost and sustainable water treatment solutions for untreated water from rivers and lakes, as well as sustainable water treatment solutions for removing heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Has professional experience as a laboratory and research assistant in both Mozambique and Japan. Her work aims to contribute to safer water access, environmental protection, and sustainable development for underserved communities in rural areas of developing countries.
Arminda Salvador Dramusse Papel is an environmental engineer and researcher from Mozambique with academic and professional experience in water treatment, environmental engineering, and sustainable development. She holds an Honours Degree in Environmental Engineering from Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique and a Master’s degree in Water and Environmental Science from Nagasaki University in Japan.
Her academic work has focused on practical and low-cost solutions for water treatment. During her undergraduate studies, she investigated the application of Opuntia Ficus-indica as a natural coagulant in the water treatment process, using the Umbeluzi River in Maputo Province as a case study.
Her master’s research examined the effect of activation reagents on the adsorption rate and capacity of heavy metal ions into activated carbon under aqueous solution. This work focused particularly on the removal of hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) using activated carbon produced from sawdust, contributing to research on sustainable and affordable materials for environmental remediation.
Professionally, Arminda worked as a laboratory assistant and research assistant at the Water Research Institute under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Higher and Vocational Education in Mozambique. In this role, she contributed to research on rural water purification, laboratory analysis, wastewater sampling, and the evaluation of natural materials for water treatment. She also gained international experience in Japan through an internship at HINODE SANGYO Co., Ltd, where she worked on industrial water treatment technologies and sustainable purification methods.
Arminda’s research interests are connected to the challenges faced by developing countries, especially access to safe water, water pollution, climate-related environmental pressures, and the need for affordable treatment technologies. Her long-term goal is to contribute to scientific research, policy, and practical solutions that improve water quality and environmental sustainability in underserved communities in rural areas of developing countries.
