Dr Assumpta Chinwe Nwanya

About me

Dr Assumpta C. Nwanya is a Lecturer and a FLAIR (Future Leaders - African Independent Research) Scholar at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She obtained her PhD in 2017 (University of Nigeria, Nsukka) with specialisation in the synthesis of nanostructured materials for applications in photovoltaics and electrochemical energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors) as well as for sensing. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow under the UNESCO-University of South Africa (UNISA) Africa Chair in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2018-2020). She is a research Affiliate with the SensorLab, University of the Western Cape Sensor Laboratories, Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Nwanya is also a fellow of the Science by Women Foundation (Women for Africa) Spain.

Dr Assumpta C. Nwanya is a Senior Lecturer with the department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She obtained her PhD in 2017 from the same department and University with specialisation in the synthesis of nanostructured materials for applications in photovoltaics and electrochemical energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors) as well as for gas sensing.
Dr Nwanya was the best PhD student of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and received the 2nd Prize, of the Vice Chancellors Postgraduate Prize in the 2016/2017 academic session. She has successfully supervised many Masters students and a PhD student in the department and co supervised Masters students with Prof Iwuoha of the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. She is a very active researcher as evidenced in her Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.co.za/citations?user=mQAejz4AAAAJ&hl=en with more than 140 publications (both journal article and book chapters).
She is a Future Leaders - African Independent Research (FLAIR) Scholar. The Flair Fellowship programme is a partnership initiative of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the Royal Society of UK and the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The highly competitive FLAIR Fellowship is awarded to top early career researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa who show great promise of becoming future leaders in their fields of specialisation. Dr Nwanya is also a fellow of the Science by Women Foundation (Women for Africa) Spain. She has attracted a few research grants that has enabled her to procure some basic nanoscience equipment which both students and staff within and outside the University find handy for their research.
