About me
Covenant Josephine Kolawole is an emerging academic and researcher in Biochemistry with interests centered on clinical enzymes and their potential applications in disease management. Her academic career reflects a commitment to teaching, research, student mentorship, scientific communication, and service to the university and wider academic community.
Covenant Josephine Kolawole is a Lecturer II in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. She joined Adeleke University on 5 October 2022 as an Assistant Lecturer and has progressed to her current position as Lecturer II. Her academic responsibilities include teaching, examination administration, undergraduate project supervision, and academic advising.
She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biochemistry from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, obtained in 2016, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biochemistry from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, obtained in 2021. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Redeemers’ University, Ede. Her postgraduate training has contributed to the development of her research interests in clinical and biochemical sciences.
Her research interests are primarily focused on the exploitation of clinical enzymes in the management and treatment of diseases. Her M.Sc. research investigated the purification and characterization of mercaptopyruvate sulphurtransferase, a cyanide-detoxifying enzyme, from the hemolymph and hepatopancreas of the African river prawn (Macrobrachium vollenhovenii) obtained from Asejire Dam.
Kolawole has developed teaching experience across tertiary and secondary education. Prior to joining Adeleke University, she served as a Lecturer at Grace College of Health Technology, Osogbo, where she taught Epidemiology, and at Grace College of Education, Osogbo, where she taught Reproductive Health. She also worked as a Science Teacher at Greenfield International School, Osogbo, where she taught science subjects at the junior secondary school level.
At Adeleke University, she has taught courses across several areas of biochemistry, including General Biochemistry, Experimental Biochemistry, Introductory Enzymology, Advanced Enzymology, Tissue Biochemistry, Food Biochemistry, Forensic Biochemistry, Cell Biochemistry, and practical biochemistry. She has also supervised undergraduate research projects in areas including enzyme inhibition, phytochemistry, antioxidant activity, pharmacological evaluation, and experimental biomedical research.
She has contributed to the scientific community through journal publications, conference proceedings, conference presentations, and academic book publications. Her published works include research on the purification and characterization of mercaptopyruvate sulphurtransferase, as well as reviews and studies on the phytochemical, antimicrobial, and pharmacological properties of medicinal plants. She has also contributed to academic books and practical manuals in biochemistry.
Kolawole has participated in several academic conferences, workshops, and professional development programmes, including the OWSD Nigeria Biennial International Conference, Faculty of Science International Conferences at Obafemi Awolowo University and Adeleke University, the Pharm-Food Congress, and training in Basic Molecular Biology Techniques and Bioinformatics. She has also adopted student presentations, projector-assisted teaching, and group discussions as innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning.
In addition to her teaching and research activities, she contributes actively to academic administration and university service. She currently serves as Examination Officer in the Department of Biochemistry, is a member of the Faculty of Science Examination Committee and the Departmental Welfare Committee, and serves as Academic Adviser for 300-level students in the Department of Biochemistry. She has also participated in the university's annual Biochemistry Outreach Programme, contributing to public-oriented academic activities on disorders of carbohydrate metabolism and the roles of nucleic acids in health and lifestyle.
