Ms Edjona Clicilla HESSA MONTCHO
About me
Clicilla HESSA MONTCHO is an agronomist and PhD student at the Université Nationale d’Agriculture (UNA), Benin, specializing in animal nutrition and livestock production. Her research focuses on climate-smart tree–grass forage mixtures to improve ruminant productivity, reduce enteric methane emissions, and enhance the resilience of livestock systems to climate change. She is passionate about sustainable livestock production, food security, and innovative strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Clicilla HESSA MONTCHO is an agronomist and PhD student at the Université Nationale d’Agriculture (UNA), Benin, where she specializes in animal nutrition, livestock production, and climate-smart agricultural systems. She holds a Professional Master’s degree in Animal Production and Health, with a specialization in Milk and Meat Production.
Her research focuses on the use of tree–grass forage mixtures to develop sustainable, productive, and climate-resilient ruminant production systems in Benin. Her doctoral research investigates the nutritional value of forage resources, the potential of bioactive plant compounds to mitigate enteric methane emissions, and their implications for rumen fermentation and animal productivity.
Her scientific interests include animal nutrition, forage evaluation, feed quality analysis, sustainable livestock production, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and food security. She is particularly interested in integrating nutritional, microbiological, and predictive approaches to identify practical strategies for reducing the environmental impact of livestock production while maintaining animal performance.
Through her research, she aims to contribute to the development of locally adapted, low-emission livestock systems that strengthen farmers’ resilience, improve the efficient use of local feed resources, and support sustainable agricultural development in Benin and across Africa.
