Eng Dr Damaris Oyaro

Eng. Dr. Damaris Kerubo Oyaro is a civil and environmental engineer specializing in water resources and sanitary engineering. She is a lecturer in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at the University of Nairobi, where she teaches, conducts research, and mentors emerging engineers.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Master of Science in Sanitary Engineering from Leibniz University Hannover, Germany. Her professional and research interests encompass water resources management, hydrology, water supply and sanitation, wastewater engineering, groundwater systems, dam safety, urban drainage, water quality, environmental protection and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Dr. Oyaro is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a member of the Engineers Board of Kenya. She has served in several engineering leadership roles, including as an IEK Council Member and Vice Chair of the IEK Women Engineers Committee. She is also the initiator of the University of Nairobi Women in Science and Engineering initiative and actively promotes mentorship, professional development, innovation, and greater participation of women and young people in STEM.

Her work integrates engineering practice, research, teaching, and community engagement to advance sustainable water security, environmental health, resilient infrastructure and inclusive development in Kenya and across Africa.
