DR FOLAKE ADEGOKE

Dr. Folake Adegoke is a Computer Science academic, researcher, and university administrator with extensive experience in teaching, research, academic leadership, and community service. She is currently a Lecturer I and Head of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, Nigeria, a position she has held since February 2024.
Dr. Adegoke has a strong academic background in Computer Science. She obtained her B.Sc. (Hons.) in Computer Science in 2009, M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2017, and Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2023. Her doctoral research focused on the development of a hate speech classification model for Nigerian indigenous languages on social media, reflecting her interest in applying Artificial Intelligence and machine learning techniques to contemporary societal challenges.
Her professional career spans both industry-related and academic experience. She began her working career as a Computer Operator and subsequently served as a Computer Operator/Examination Officer during her NYSC programme. She joined Kogi State University, Anyigba, in April 2012 and has continued her academic career there.
As a researcher, Dr. Adegoke has made significant contributions to the field of computing through numerous journal publications and collaborative research works. Her publications cover diverse areas including Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, hate speech detection, healthcare applications, computer education, IoT, rainfall prediction, image processing, clustering, optimization, and intelligent information systems. Her research outputs include publications in international and peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating her sustained engagement with scholarly research and knowledge dissemination.
Some of her notable research contributions include work on Yoruba-language text-based hate speech detection, Pidgin English hate speech classification, machine learning applications in computer science education, malaria diagnosis using convolutional neural networks, rainfall prediction using the backpropagation algorithm, and web-based IoT systems for livestock monitoring and management. These works demonstrate her commitment to developing computing solutions for practical educational, healthcare, social, and environmental challenges.
Dr. Adegoke is also actively involved in academic administration and student development. In addition to serving as Head of Department, she has served as SIWES Coordinator, Welfare Coordinator, and a member of institutional committees. Through these responsibilities, she contributes to academic planning, student industrial training, staff welfare, departmental administration, and institutional development.
Her commitment to professional development is further reflected in her participation in workshops, conferences, and training programmes covering ICT, research skills, information management, digital literacy, data processing and analysis, and other areas relevant to computing and higher education. Her principal area of specialization is Artificial Intelligence.
Dr. Adegoke is a member of professional organizations, including the Nigerian Mathematical Society and the Nigeria Computer Society. She also contributes to community and public service through various responsibilities and activities.
