Ms. MAVOUNGOU Lise Bethy
About me
I am a PhD in Bioecology and Animal Physiology and a research associate in herpetology at IRSEN. I study how tropical reptiles and amphibians adapt to climate change and environmental pressures in Central Africa, combining fieldwork and laboratory experiments. My research focuses on thermal ecophysiology, biodiversity conservation, and snakebite epidemiology (One Health). I also work on the characterization of edible frog species in the Congo to support sustainable wildlife management.
Lise Bethy Mavoungou is a Congolese biologist specializing in bioecology and animal physiology, holding a PhD from Marien Ngouabi University. Her research focuses on herpetology, particularly the biogeography of venomous snakes and the epidemiology of snakebites in the Republic of Congo, integrating biodiversity, public health, and climate change perspectives.
She is a researcher at the National Institute for Research in Exact and Natural Sciences (IRSEN) and a lecturer at Marien Ngouabi University. She has also gained international research experience in thermal ecophysiology at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.
Author and co-author of several scientific publications, including in Nature Communications, she is actively involved in international initiatives related to conservation and global health. In addition, she holds a leadership position at the Ministry of Scientific Research and Technological Innovation in Congo, contributing to research management and infrastructure development.
Her work aims to better understand the impacts of climate change on tropical biodiversity and to develop sustainable solutions for conservation and public health.
