Dr. Lubna Alam
About me
Dr. Lubna Alam is a marine scientist focused on ocean health and fisheries sustainability, with over 14 years of research experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, a Master of Science in Marine Science, and a Ph.D. in Ocean Science from the National University of Malaysia. Dr. Alam is currently a Research Associate at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and an Associate Fellow at the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) at the National University of Malaysia. She also serves as part of the Extended Secretariat of the Earth Commission’s Safe and Just Boundaries workstream, contributing to working groups focused on the ocean domains of the Earth system. Her research tackles some of the most pressing
challenges facing our oceans, including deep-sea mining, marine pollution, seafood safety, climate change, and the sustainability of global fisheries. Deeply committed to advancing the role of women in science, Dr. Alam serves on the Executive Committee of the OWSD-UNESCO (Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World) Malaysia Chapter, where she works to expand research training, career development, and networking opportunities for women
scientists worldwide.
