Dr. Mahmoud Fathy Mubarak is an Associate Professor of Applied physical Chemistry and a leading expert in water treatment technology, desalination, and environmental chemistry, with more than 14 years of academic and applied research experience. He earned his B.Sc. (2009), M.Sc. (2014), and Ph.D. (2018) in Applied Chemistry from Mansoura University, where he currently serves in the Department of Applied Petrochemicals.
Dr. Mubarak has directed and contributed to 11 national STDF-funded projects in the fields of water purification, nanobiotechnology, and sustainable desalination as Principal Investigator, Co-PI, and consultant. His research outputs include over 145 publications in high-impact international journals, alongside nine authored books and book chapters focusing on advanced water treatment materials, nanocomposites, and circular water economy approaches.
A recipient of the State Encouragement Award in Advanced Technological Sciences (2024) and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils Award (2020), Dr. Mubarak’s pioneering work in bio-inspired and nanomaterial-based water treatment technologies has positioned him as a key national contributor to Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable water management.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Core Lab Center – Water Compatibility Laboratory at the Petroleum Research Institute and is an active member of ten national and international scientific societies. He has participated in more than 30 international conferences and completed over 350 applied studies for major oil and environmental sectors.
Dr. Mubarak also holds a patent in nanotechnology, provides consultancy for national water and sustainability programs, and serves on the editorial boards of seven international journals published by Springer Nature, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, and MDPI.

Current Positions and Expertise:
Dr. Mahmoud Fathy Mubarak serves as an Assistant Professor of Applied Physical Chemistry at the Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute (EPRI). He is the Principal Investigator of the EMN project for the assessment of water treatment plants at the institute and a member of the Board of Directors of the CoreLab Center.
His expertise spans over 14 years in the fields of water desalination, water treatment, separation membranes, scale inhibition, and green sustainability, with a specialized focus on 2D graphene-based nanomaterials.

Scientific Output and Publications:
Dr. Mubarak has a prolific scientific output, having published over 165 research papers in leading Q1-ranked international journals. He has authored 8 internationally published books and numerous book chapters, and has served as a peer reviewer for more than 500 manuscripts across 82 prestigious scientific journals.

Research Projects and Service Studies:
He has led and participated in over 11 applied research projects funded by the Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) and various Egyptian universities, all of which focused on innovative solutions for industrial and agricultural water treatment and desalination using eco-friendly nanomaterials. Furthermore, he has conducted over 300 service studies for 12 major petroleum companies in the areas of water compatibility and scale inhibitor evaluation.

Academic Supervision and Patents:
Currently, Dr. Mubarak supervises more than 30 Master's and Ph.D. theses across various Egyptian universities. He holds one registered patent, with two additional patents currently under evaluation.

Training and Capacity Building:
Dr. Mubarak has made significant contributions to human capacity development and knowledge transfer. He has trained over 3,000 students across Egyptian universities in the fields of water treatment, desalination, nanomaterials, and their applications. In addition, he has trained more than 50 professionals from petroleum companies and the public sector in water treatment and desalination, petroleum production, and materials science, thereby enhancing the technical competencies of personnel working in these vital sectors.

Distinguished Scientific Awards:
• The State Encouragement Award in Advanced Technological Sciences (2024).
• The Association of Arab Scientific Research Councils Award for Water Innovations (2020).
• The Nano Install Award (India, 2026) in the field of 2D Graphene Nanomaterials, granted for the highest impact in real-world applied research that has been widely cited and industrially implemented.
• Third Place in the Entrepreneurship Club (E-Club) competition organized by STDF and EPRI (2023).

Applied and Community Contributions:
Among his most notable achievements is his contribution to the establishment and development of the Water Compatibility Studies Laboratory at the CoreLab Center, as well as his supervision of scientific analyses and services for the petroleum sector. Additionally, he serves as a lecturer at Mansoura University, Suez Canal University, and Delta Technological University.
His research is distinguished by a focus on the development of self-cleaning and self-healing nanomembranes, as well as membranes based on graphene and carbon derivatives, utilizing agricultural and industrial waste to achieve the principle of "Zero Liquid Discharge."
