About me

Marielena Vogel Saivish is a Brazilian biomedical scientist and virologist specializing in emerging and neglected arboviruses. She earned her PhD in Health Sciences from the School of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, with part of her doctoral research conducted abroad through the FAPESP BEPE fellowship. Her research focuses on the molecular characterization of arboviruses, antiviral discovery, and viral immunology, integrating experimental and computational approaches. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals and currently conducts research at the University of Texas Medical Branch (USA), contributing to efforts to better understand and combat emerging viral diseases that disproportionately affect tropical and developing regions.

Marielena Vogel Saivish is a Brazilian biomedical scientist and virologist whose research focuses on emerging and neglected arboviruses that disproportionately affect tropical and developing regions. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Master’s degree in Applied Health Sciences from the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, and a PhD in Health Sciences from the School of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP). During her doctoral training, she conducted part of her research abroad through the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) BEPE fellowship, strengthening international scientific collaboration and research capacity. Her research integrates experimental virology, molecular biology, immunology, and computational approaches to investigate the biology, evolution, and pathogenic potential of arboviruses, particularly neglected flaviviruses. Her work includes the molecular characterization of emerging viruses, the identification of antiviral compounds from natural products, and the application of immunoinformatics and structural biology tools to support antiviral and diagnostic development. Dr. Saivish has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals and has contributed to collaborative research addressing major challenges in infectious diseases and global health. Currently based at the University of Texas Medical Branch (USA), her research continues to advance understanding of emerging viral threats and to support the development of strategies to mitigate the impact of arboviral diseases worldwide.
