About me
Dr. Idigo Mediatrix is an Applied Entomologist and Lecturer in the Department of Biological Science at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Nigeria. Her research specialization focuses on Integrated Pest Management (IPM), with a strong emphasis on the development and application of botanical pesticides as sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic chemicals. Through her work, she advances environmentally sustainable pest control strategies that support public health entomology, agricultural safety, and climate-resilient farming practices.
Motivated by scientific curiosity and a commitment to community well-being, Dr. Mediatrix investigates natural product research for pest control solutions designed to be safe, accessible, and adaptable—particularly for rural and underserved communities. Her research contributes to global dialogues on agroecology, vector control, and environmental health, promoting solutions that protect both ecosystems and human health.
Beyond academia, she plays a significant social leadership role. As the wife of HRM, Dr. Michael Chukwuneme Idigo (Idigo V), Ezeudo, Igwe Aguleri, she is actively involved in community development, youth empowerment, and cultural heritage preservation. Her unique position enables her to integrate indigenous knowledge systems with modern scientific innovation, fostering community-centered development models that respect both tradition and scientific progress.
Dr. Mediatrix is also passionate about women empowerment in STEM. She mentors emerging scientists, leads capacity-building initiatives, and promotes community-based science education that encourages young women to pursue scientific careers with confidence. Her work embodies the belief that cultural identity and scientific advancement can jointly strengthen community resilience and sustainable progress.

Dr. Mediatrix Amara Idigo is an Applied Entomologist and Lecturer in the Department of Biological Science at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Nigeria. She hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. Her academic path began in Maiduguri, Borno State, and continued through Federal Government Girls’ College, Potiskum, Yobe State. She holds a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Maiduguri and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Entomology from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
She commenced her academic career in 2021 after serving as Confidential Secretary to the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Greg Nwakoby. Since transitioning to the academic cadre, she has played active roles in several university committees, contributing to institutional development, academic quality, and student advancement.
As a researcher, Dr. Idigo specializes in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with emphasis on the development of botanical pesticides as safer and environmentally sustainable alternatives to synthetic chemicals. Her work advances solutions in public health entomology, agroecology, vector control and climate-resilient agriculture, with special relevance for rural and underserved communities. Her scholarly presence includes publications, paper presentations, and invitations as keynote speaker, notably at the 3rd Annual Conference of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria in April 2024.
She is a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Nigeria, the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), and the Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN).
Beyond academia and research, Dr. Mediatrix is deeply committed to community formation, cultural continuity, and moral development. A devoted Catholic, she serves as a patroness of the Board of Lectors and Block rosary Crusade at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, GRA, Awka and is widely involved in Marian and parish-based women organizations. In April 2023, she was conferred the cultural honor “Nne Egwu” by the Catholic Women Organization of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Aguleri.
Driven by her passion for the spiritual and moral formation of young children in an era marked by rising social and moral challenges, Dr. Mediatrix established the Mediatrix of All Graces Block Rosary Centre within her residence. Every evening, children gather there for prayer, catechesis, discipline-building, value formation, and community bonding. This initiative stands as a grassroots youth empowerment and moral transformation platform, nurturing children into responsible, confident, spiritually-grounded and community-conscious young citizens. This work reflects her firm belief that nation-building begins with child formation, and highlights her capacity for leadership, compassion, community influence, and transformative social engagement.
Her leadership is also expressed through her role as the wife of HRM, Dr. Michael Chukwuneme Idigo (Idigo V), Ezeudo, Igwe of Aguleri Community, in Anambra State, where she supports and participates in community development, cultural preservation, youth engagement, and social welfare initiatives. She is recognized for harmonizing traditional wisdom with scientific knowledge, building bridges between heritage and progress.
Dr. Mediatrix continues to mentor emerging scientists, especially young women in STEM, promoting confidence, research excellence, and intellectual curiosity.
She and her husband are blessed with beautiful children, and together, they remain committed to advancing community wellbeing, cultural identity, and human dignity.
