About me
Monica K. Boodhan is a Physicist, Renewable Energy Specialist, and Senior Lecturer at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). Her research focuses on decarbonization pathways, solar distillation, and renewable-powered water treatment in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). She serves as President of the Caribbean Desalination Association (CaribDA) and acts as a lead consultant on national clean energy education initiatives. Honored with several of UTT’s institutional Excellence in Teaching Awards, the IDRA Emerging Leader Achievement Award, and two CaribDA's presidential awards, Monica is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy modeling, STEM education, and climate resilience across vulnerable Caribbean communities.
Monica K. Boodhan is a Trinidadian Physicist, Senior Lecturer, and Renewable Energy Specialist dedicated to advancing clean energy transitions and water security across Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Based at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), her doctoral research focuses on developing comprehensive decarbonization pathways for Trinidad and Tobago. Her broader scientific expertise encompasses renewable energy technologies, solar distillation optimization, and energy-efficient water treatment processes tailored for climate-vulnerable island regions.
In addition to her academic research, Monica serves as a consultant for national clean energy initiatives. She led the technical design and execution of the "Train the Trainer" renewable energy program for the Ministry of Education, developing STEM activity kits and conducting outreach in remote communities to increase climate resilience. A leader in the international scientific community, Monica serves as President of the Caribbean Desalination Association (CaribDA) and has long championed capacity-building for young scientists through global initiatives with the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA). Her contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including UTT’s institutional and program Excellence in Teaching Awards, the IDRA Emerging Leader Achievement Award in Dubai, and multiple CaribDA Presidential Awards.
She frequently represents Trinidad and Tobago at international climate and energy platforms hosted by organizations like the ICTP, IAEA, CCG and the World Bank. Through her research, advocacy, and teaching, Monica remains committed to empowering underrepresented communities and cultivating sustainable energy solutions across the global South.
