About me

Dr. Nanou Emeline Dossa is a plant breeding researcher specializing in crop resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Her work focuses on developing climate-resilient varieties of maize, millet, and beans to enhance food security and sustainability in Africa.

Dr. Nanou Emeline Dossa is a plant breeding researcher specializing in crop resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. She holds a PhD in Plant Breeding from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where her research focused on developing improved tropical and sub-tropical maize varieties for Striga resistance and yield enhancement. Her expertise lies in stress tolerance mechanisms, breeding strategies, and advanced selection techniques aimed at improving crop resilience in challenging environments.

Throughout her career, Emeline has contributed to several impactful research projects, publishing in high-quality journals such as Crop Science, Frontiers in Plant Science, BMC in Plant Biology, Euphytica, and Scientific Reports. Her work has strengthened breeding strategies for staple crops, ensuring sustainable food security solutions. Beyond research, she is passionate about mentorship and teaching, guiding future scientists and fostering knowledge exchange in the field of plant breeding.

Currently, she is advancing her work on millet, beans, and maize breeding, focusing on developing climate-resilient varieties that can withstand drought and disease pressures. Her dedication to agricultural research reflects a commitment to improving crop productivity and sustainability in Africa.

Plant Breeding is a scientific discipline that improves crop varieties through genetic enhancement. It integrates genetics, agronomy, and biotechnology principles to develop high-yielding, disease-resistant, and climate-resilient crops. This field plays a crucial role in food security by optimizing plant performance through conventional and molecular breeding approaches, ensuring sustainable agricultural systems worldwide.
