Patricia Oyeronke Ogundare is a PhD Candidate in Applied Biochemistry and Research Officer at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. Patricia Oyeronke Ogundare is a PhD Candidate in Applied Biochemistry and a Research Officer in the Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals Unit, Department of Biochemistry, at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. Her academic and research career is centered on the investigation and development of functional foods and nutraceuticals with potential nutritional and health benefits.
She holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Applied Biochemistry from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a Master of Technology degree in Applied Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where she graduated with a CGPA of 4.73/5.00. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Applied Biochemistry, with her doctoral research focusing on selenium biofortification of maize for the development of nutritionally enhanced functional foods.
Her current research investigates the ability of selenium biofortification to improve the nutritional and functional properties of maize, with particular emphasis on selenium accumulation, phytochemical composition, antioxidant activity, and the potential mechanisms underlying these responses. Her broader research interests include plant bioactive compounds, phytochemistry, oxidative stress, inflammation, functional food development, nutraceuticals, and the application of biochemical approaches to address nutritional and health challenges.
Patricia has developed research experience across in vitro and in vivo experimental models and is proficient in a range of biochemical and analytical techniques, including phytochemical analysis, antioxidant assays, spectrophotometry, HPLC, mineral analysis, and biochemical evaluation of biological samples. Her research experience also encompasses the investigation of bioactive compounds and their effects on biological systems, including studies relevant to oxidative stress, neurodegeneration, inflammation, and nutritional health.
Beyond her laboratory research, she is actively involved in scientific communication, academic presentations, research writing, and interdisciplinary scholarly activities. She has contributed to peer-reviewed scientific publications, research projects, book chapter development, and academic conferences and has participated in neuroscience-focused scientific training. Her research activities have also provided opportunities to explore emerging areas at the intersection of biochemistry, nutrition, plant science, and human health.
