Dr. Shilpa Kumari is a Senior Scientist at CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, with a PhD in Engineering and expertise in areas such as Green Hydrogen, Solar energy utilisation technologies, Reduced-emission firecrackers, Emission monitoring, and Waste management. She has led over 15 major research projects sponsored by ministries and industries, contributing to innovations like Green Crackers, which won the CSIR Technology Award in 2021. Dr. Kumari has mentored over 15 graduate and postgraduate students for completing their dissertation and published extensively, including nine HIF publications, seven design registrations and four patents. Her societal work includes mass awareness about menstrual waste management and disinfection solutions and mask distribution during COVID 19 pandemic. A recognized expert, she has been an invited speaker at various national and international prestigious forums and received a DST Travel Grant in 2024. Dr. Kumari is actively involved with the IUCN and OWSD and holds certifications in ISO/IEC 17025 , ISO 9001 and Project management & planning. She has also attended the Young Scientist's Meeting organized by TWAS-CASAREP.
Dr. Shilpa Kumari is a Senior Scientist at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, holding a PhD in Engineering Sciences, an M.Tech in Environmental Systems Engineering, and a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. Her research expertise encompasses a wide range of areas, including Green Hydrogen, techno-economics of environmental technologies, cost-benefit analysis, rural innovations, reduced-emission firecrackers, emission monitoring, menstrual waste management, solar energy utilization, and fly ash management. Dr. Kumari has led and contributed to over 12 significant research projects funded by industries, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), and CSIR. As a dedicated mentor, she has guided over 15 graduate and postgraduate students on projects related to solar air purifiers, renewable energy, waste management, and water purification. Her scientific contributions include seven publications in leading journals, four patents, and five design registrations. Notably, she was part of the team that developed Green Crackers, a groundbreaking innovation that earned them the CSIR Technology Award in Physical Sciences in 2021.Beyond her research work, Dr. Kumari played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading a project on hypochlorite generation for disinfection and contributing to mask distribution efforts. She has been an invited speaker at prestigious forums, including the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology. In 2024, she received a Travel Grant from DST to present her work at an international conference in Paris.Dr. Kumari is an active member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Commission on Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy and a lifetime member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is a reviewer for prominent journals such as Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy and Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, and serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Energy and Environmental Science.A skilled professional, Dr. Kumari is certified in ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (Laboratory Management System) and ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), with expertise in project planning and management. She is also a proud recipient of the WiSLP Leadership Programme selection by DST and the British Council under the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI). She has been invited to different forums as Speaker and Guest of Honor on International Women’s Day Celebration 2025. She is also recognized as Assistant Professor for Faculty of Engineering Sciences at Academy of scientific and innovative Research ( AcSIR) . Recently she was Invited by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Young Scientists’ Meeting – “Earth’s Changing Contours: The Interplay of Forces & Time”, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru
