About me
Sonia Helena Contreras Ortiz holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s in Electrical Power from Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), Colombia, as well as a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Connecticut (UCONN), USA. She is a Full Professor in the Biomedical Engineering program at Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar (UTB) in Cartagena, Colombia, where she has served as Dean of the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Design since 2022.
Her research focuses on biosignal and medical image processing, affective computing, and computer-aided diagnosis. She has led initiatives to design and implement STEM education programs for children and to promote the participation of girls and women in STEM fields.
Dr. Contreras Ortiz is a Senior Member of IEEE, serves as Coordinator of the Research Committee of Cátedra Matilda, and is an active member of SPIE and OWSD.
