About me

Dr. Adedotun Onoyinka AFOLAYAN is a distinguished ecologist and environmental biologist with a PhD in Ecology and Environmental Biology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Currently, she serves as Deputy Director (Research) and Head of the Tissue Culture Unit at the Biotechnology Department, National Center for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan, Nigeria.

Dr. Afolayan is a respected leader in her field, holding key positions such as President-Elect of the Africa Region of the Society for Conservation Biology and former President of the Nigerian Society for Conservation Biology. Besides this, she is an alumnus of NUFFIC, a Fellow of the Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP), and an alumnus of the International Foundation for Science (IFS).

With extensive experience in research and academia, Dr. Afolayan has made significant contributions to intellectual and research resources in Nigeria. Her research expertise spans tissue culture techniques, conservation biology, and environmental sustainability.

Her research expertise spans tissue culture techniques, conservation biology, and environmental sustainability. She has led and collaborated on various national and international research projects, including the Yam Improvement for Income and Food Security in West Africa (YIIFSWA) and the Program for Seed Systems Innovation for Vegetatively propagated crops in Africa (PROSSIVA).

Dr. Afolayan is a prolific researcher, having published numerous scientific articles and mentored students at various levels. She has also facilitated courses and supervised students at the National Open University of Nigeria. Her dedication to research and conservation has earned her recognition, including the IBRD.IDA/World Bank's letter of appreciation.

Beyond her institutional roles, Dr. Afolayan is the founder and CEO of My Environment Wellbeing Initiative (MEWIn), an NGO that focuses on ensuring the overall well-being of the environment through different biodiversity conservation initiatives.

Dr. Afolayan's passion for biodiversity conservation drives her work, focusing on medium-term conservation of Nigerian indigenous genetic resources using tissue culture techniques. She is committed to ensuring the nation's natural plant resources are conserved and utilized sustainably.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Afolayan is a devoted Christian, wife, and mother, serving her community through her church and mentoring young people.
