OWSD Zimbabwe National Chapter organised a series of outreach events in 2025, with the theme: Enhancing Science Literacy among Young Girls in Zimbabwe. Five events in total were hosted at Millerite International School, Roosevelt Girls High, Monte Cassino Girls High, Arundel School, and Eveline Girls High, covering three provinces across the country.

The primary audience at these events was secondary school girls aged 13–18, and also parents, teachers, industry stakeholders, and mentors. Events featured interactive science demonstrations, and career talks from women scientists, as well as sessions on wellness.

I didn’t know that there were various science fields besides medicine, I’m looking forward to pursing biotechnology.

Participants were also offered mentoring on which science subject combinations to select for different career paths, alongside study techniques for examinations, and guidance on funding their science education through scholarships, vacation jobs, and entrepreneurial activities.

I have never seen an agricultural scientist. I thought people who study agriculture become farmers.

- Munenyasha, age 15

By combining academic guidance with personal development and real-world exposure, the OWSD Zimbabwe initiative has empowered girls with knowledge, skills, and practical strategies for pursuing science careers, particularly in communities where STEM opportunities remain scarce.
