The Rwanda National Chapter has launched the STEM Star Programme, OWSD’s flagship mentorship and capacity-building initiative aimed at equipping undergraduate women with the tools and support they need to excel in STEM fields.

The launch event, in Kigali, was hosted by Rwanda Association for Women in Science and Engineering (RAWISE) and included a workshop: Celebrating Women’s Contributions in Tech and Digital Education, which emphasised the important, yet under-recognised role that women and girls play in the digital transformation of education and technology.

OWSD Rwanda has subsequently delivered 5 outreach activities in 2025, designed to engage recent STEM graduates, strengthen the science culture in schools, and enhance girls’ awareness of STEM, specifically.

Activities included a Pilot Science Literacy Training at FAWE Girls' School in the Gahini-Eastern Province, Secondary School Outreach Activity & Science Club Initiation events in the Karongi and Rubavu districts, and Campus to Career: Equipping Fresh Graduate STEM Students for Success workshop in Kigali.

These school events have reached hundreds of pupils, especially girls, with the initiation of several school science clubs, while the graduate event attracted 50+ recent graduates equipping them with the resources to advance their career opportunities in STEM.
