A BIOGRAPY OF FELICITAS NGOZI AFIUKWA
Dr. Felicitas Ngozi Afiukwa was born in July 12, 1981 at Ekpelu Unweka in Ikwo L.G.A. of Ebonyi State. She obtained her FSLC at Community Primary School Ekpelu in 1992; obtained her SSCE at Community Secondary School Abina, Ikwo in 1999; obtained her B. Sc. in Applied Microbiology of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki in 2004. She also went ahead to obtained her M.Sc and Ph.D in 2011 and 2016, respectively in Medical Microbiology (Epidemiology option) in Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. She further obtained an Executive Certificate Course on Health Policy and Health Systems in Ebonyi State University in 2018. She was employed in Ebonyi State University as a Technologist and today she is an Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology (Epidemiology option).
She has served in some leadership capacities including Students Industrial Works Experience Scheme (SIWES) Coordinator from 2015 to 2016; Postgraduate Programme Coordinator from 2015 to 2018 both in the Department of Applied Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Ebonyi State University, and currently, the Director, Biotechnology Research and Development Centre, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. She has published over 40 articles in both local and International peer-reviewed journals.
BIODATA OF DR. AFIUKWA FELICITAS NGOZI
Dr. Felicitas Ngozi Afiukwa is an Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology (Epidemiology option) in the Department of Applied Microbiology of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. She holds a B.Sc. Degree in Applied Microbiology (2004), M.Sc. Degree in Medical Microbiology (Epidemiology option) (2011) and PhD Degree in Medical Microbiology (Epidemiology option) (2016). She further obtained an Executive Certificate Course on Health Policy and Health Systems in Ebonyi State University in 2018. She was employed as a Laboratory Technologist (2007) and rose to the rank of an Associate Professor in 2023 at Ebonyi State University.
Dr. Felicitas Ngozi Afiukwa has served in some leadership capacities including Students Industrial Works Experience Scheme (SIWES) Coordinator from 2015 to 2016; Postgraduate Programme Coordinator from 2015 to 2018 both in the Department of Applied Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Ebonyi State University, and currently, the Director, Biotechnology Research and Development Centre, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
She has worn two Institution Based Research (IBR) grant awards titled: Exploring Palm Wine and Herbal Alternatives: A Novel Approach to Combat Multi-Drug-Resistant Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in 2024; and exploring the efficacy of sesame seed oil against multi-drug- resistant bacteria pathogens from urinary tract infection patients and diabetic ulcers with in silico modeling in 2026.
Her area of research interest include: antibiotic resistance studies, herbal alternatives for combating antibiotic resistance, and recently, application of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) to mitigate biotic and abiotic stress in crop plants.
Dr. Felicitas Ngozi is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Microbiology and supervises students’ research projects. She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals and has contributed to academic conferences and seminars. She is committed to advancing scientific knowledge through research, teaching, and community service, and she is a member of relevant professional bodies (such as Nigerian Society for Microbiology and American Society for Microbiology) in the field of microbiology.
