About me

Amii Isaac OBIAKARA-AMAECHI (Nee USESE) is a faculty member and Lecturer at the Department of Marine Sciences, University of Lagos- Nigeria. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Marine Pollution and Management and Master of Environmental Management (MEM) from the University of Lagos) as well as a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Microbiology from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. As an early career researcher, she has a strong interest in tropical coastal and marine ecological issues. She has expertise in marine water quality analysis, bioavailability of potentially toxic metals and other persistent organic pollutants. Currently, her work is focused on the risk assessment of emerging micropollutants, plastic pollution and ecosystem health.

Amii Isaac Obiakara-Amaechi (nee Usese) is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Marine Sciences, University of Lagos- Nigeria. Her research focuses on risk assessment of contaminants of priority concerns and other environmental issues in the marine and coastal environment. She is also interested in understanding the impact of multiple anthropogenic stressors and changing global climate on ecosystem health and resilience. Dr. Obiakara-Amaechi earned a PhD in Marine Biology, Master of Science (MSc.) in Marine Pollution & Management, Master of Environmental Management (University of Lagos) and a BSc (Hons) degree in Microbiology from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Her commitment to innovative research has resulted in a number of active collaborations regionally and globally to ensure capacity building for several young scientists of African origin at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Society of Toxicology (SOT) and Toxicologist of African origin (TAO), Dr Obiakara-Amaechi has made relevant technical and policy contributions in the field of ecotoxicology, risk assessment of contaminants and marine pollution management. She has authored and co-authored over 2 peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals.
