About me

Professor Bolaji Edward is a distinguished scholar of Ecology and Environmental Biology in the Department of Zoology, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. Her academic and research career spans freshwater ecology, water quality assessment, aquatic macrophytes, biodiversity conservation, and the ecological foundations of human wellbeing. Over the past decade, she has led pioneering studies on the rivers and wetlands of Ekiti State, providing scientific insights that support environmental policy, sustainable water management, and community livelihood resilience.

A graduate of Ekiti State University, Professor Edward has developed a strong research portfolio focusing on biomonitoring, ecological risk assessment, and the interactions between environmental change and freshwater ecosystem health. Her comparative studies on rivers such as Elemi, Osun, Areti, and others across southwestern Nigeria have advanced understanding of how local ecological processes respond to pollution, land-use pressures, and climate-driven disturbances.
She has published widely in national and international journals, supervised numerous postgraduate students, and contributed to collaborative environmental initiatives within and beyond Nigeria. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes scientific curiosity, evidence-driven problem-solving, and the training of the next generation of ecologists.
Professor Edward’s scholarly commitment continues to shape research and policy conversations on water quality, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability. His inaugural lecture reflects a career dedicated to improving ecological knowledge and promoting healthier freshwater systems for present and future generations.
