About me

Omonike Christianah Bakare, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is an environmental biologist whose research integrates ecotoxicology, aquatic ecology, environmental toxicology, molecular biology and environmental genomics, with a focus on environmental pollution, biomonitoring, molecular biomarkers, ecotoxicogenomics and ecosystem health. Her research applies interdisciplinary biological, ecological and molecular approaches to investigate environmental stressors and pollution-related risks in tropical aquatic ecosystems, with implications for biodiversity conservation, environmental health and One Health. She is also engaged in postgraduate research supervision, scientific collaboration, research capacity building and mentorship in the biological and environmental sciences.

Omonike Christianah Bakare, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is an environmental and genetic toxicologist, molecular/genomics researcher, and aquatic and conservation biologist whose research sits at the intersection of molecular biology, environmental toxicology, ecotoxicology, aquatic ecology, genetics and biodiversity conservation.

Her research focuses on understanding the effects of environmental contaminants and other stressors on organisms and ecosystems, using molecular, genetic, cytogenotoxicological and ecological approaches. Her areas of interest include environmental pollution, environmental risk assessment, molecular biomarkers, genotoxicity, environmental genomics, ecotoxicogenomics, environmental DNA (eDNA), biodiversity assessment, aquatic ecosystem health and conservation biology.

Dr. Bakare is particularly interested in applying molecular and genomic approaches to environmental monitoring, biodiversity assessment and the investigation of pollution-related risks in tropical aquatic ecosystems. She is also actively engaged in postgraduate research supervision, academic leadership, research capacity building, scientific collaboration and mentoring in the biological and environmental sciences.

She currently serves as Secretary of the Genetic Toxicology Association of Nigeria and is a member of several professional scientific organisations. Her broader goal is to advance interdisciplinary research that contributes to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem health and the responsible application of molecular and genomic technologies.
