The South Africa National Chapter of OWSD was established in 2009 and is hosted at the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf). It is one of OWSD’s largest and most active National Chapters, comprising both South African women scientists who are members of OWSD as well as many OWSD PhD fellows who are carrying out their fellowships in South Africa. The chapter engages members through a wide range of activities, from workshops on science communications and other skills, a mentorship programme to nurture emerging STEM talent, outreach events including broadcasts on national news television, and webinars on topics that have included research commercialization and on navigating a career after the MSc/PhD.
